What is acro dance?

A series of slow, controlled, and supervised acro movements are practiced in class to ensure a solid base before routines and dance elements are integrated. If your child wants to be strong and flexible while learning how to move to music, be confident and performance-ready, Acro-dance is for you.

AcroDance is an art form specifically for dancers. Acro has softer, more lyrical-looking lines, with the emphasis being on lengthening “through” the tricks and holding balances with interesting variations. In Acro, we teach our students to dance into and out of Acro tricks, with minimal obvious “prep” before and after a trick. Despite being technically difficult to execute, acrobatic tricks are meant to blend in seamlessly with dance steps, providing an extra level of excitement and flair to dance choreography.

Teacher Feature:

Lizanne Robinson - Acro, Burlesque, Contemporary, Modern Instructor

Lizanne Robinson

I have been lucky enough to be dancing in some form my entire life. I started at the age of 3 with classical ballet, modern, and tap, and then acrobatics and gymnastics a few years later. In high school I started Latin and Ballroom dancing, completing my teachers training in 2008. I joined the UJ dance company in 2010 and was exposed to a multitude of styles from Cabaret, Urban Funk, Jazz, and Contemporary. I was definitely the worst at HipHop! I have a postgraduate degree in Anatomy and Biological Anthropology but prefer being in the dance studio all day.

I have been teaching for 17 years and absolutely love every minute of it.
