What is tap dance?
Tap dance is more than just a dance form; it’s an art that combines rhythm, music, and precise footwork. This unique style features dancers wearing special shoes equipped with metal taps, creating a distinctive, rhythmic sound as they tap their toes and heels to the beat. Rooted deeply in African American heritage, tap dance has evolved from a rich history, influenced by a blend of African rhythms and European dance styles, reflecting a powerful narrative of cultural fusion and musical evolution.
Tap dance doesn’t just dazzle with its auditory and visual spectacle; it also offers dancers numerous benefits. Engaging in tap dance helps enhance musicality, coordination, balance, and timing, fostering a deep connection between the dancer and musical rhythms. This makes it a perfect choice for anyone looking to improve their physical abilities while also developing an appreciation for rhythm and music. Moreover, tap dancing is an excellent way to boost performance skills and social interactions, providing a lively, communal environment where dancers of all ages can flourish.

I started dancing at the tender age of 3 when the Razzle Dazzle of a Ballet class captivated me. Who could resist the charm of a little pink tutu?
I started dancing more seriously at the age of 8 when I began my training in Tap and Modern dance. I competed in many eisteddfods, showcases, and exams through the years, and dancing never seemed to lose its charm. I still attend numerous classes in various dance styles and love the thrill of performing on stage!
I am now a qualified Tap dance instructor with the Association of Internal Dance Teachers (AIDT) and continue my studies by learning as much as I can about music, anatomy, and various dance styles. The creativity and talent out there never ceases to amaze me.
