We are so excited to share that some of our talented Five6seven8 dancers are heading to the Bent on Acro 2026 competition this weekend, running from 23 to 24 May 2026 at the Roodepoort Theatre in Johannesburg.
This is a big moment for our students and we could not be prouder of each and every one of them.
What is Bent on Acro?
Bent on Acro is one of Johannesburg’s standout AcroDance competitions, organised by WLDF SA, the South African chapter of the World Lyrical Dance Federation (WLDF). The event takes place over three days from 22 to 24 May 2026 at the Roodepoort Theatre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Road, Florida Park, Roodepoort.
This year’s competition has reached maximum capacity, which speaks to just how popular and well-regarded Bent on Acro has become on the Joburg dance competition circuit.
WLDF (World Lyrical Dance Federation) is an international organisation committed to the growth and development of lyrical dance globally. Founded by Alan Healy and based in Dublin, Ireland, WLDF has grown into a respected global federation that runs competitions and connects dancers and studios across the world, including right here in South Africa.
What is AcroDance?
If you are new to the world of competitive dance, AcroDance (often called simply “acro”) is a style that combines classical dance technique with acrobatic elements. It is defined by its athletic character, creative choreography, and the seamless blending of dance and acrobatics, think flips, lifts, balances and tumbling woven into a full dance performance.
Acro is one of the most demanding styles a dancer can train in, as it requires skill in both dance and acrobatics simultaneously. It is also one of the most spectacular to watch.
Competition Categories at Bent on Acro
Bent on Acro offers sections for a range of entry types and group sizes. Entry categories include:
- Solo — individual performances
- Duo — two-dancer routines
- Trio and Quad — small group formats
- Group — larger ensemble routines
Levels range from Novice through to Amateur and Advanced, making it accessible to dancers at various stages of their competitive journey.
Where Is the Venue?
Roodepoort Theatre 100 Christiaan de Wet Road Florida Park, Roodepoort Johannesburg, 1709
The Roodepoort Theatre is a well-known performing arts venue in the west of Johannesburg and a fitting stage for a competition of this calibre.
Cheering on Our Five6seven8 Dancers
Our students competing at Bent on Acro this year have put in tremendous work to get here. AcroDance training is no small feat, the strength, flexibility, coordination, and artistry required to compete at this level takes dedication over many months and years of consistent training.
We are incredibly proud of the commitment our dancers have shown, and we will be cheering them on every step of the way this weekend.
