It is always an honour to be asked to help someone plan a proposal, especially when it involves a Flash Mob. This is when we get most excited. (Video can be seen at the end of this post)
When Jacques got in touch with us at the end of January wanting to do a flash mob in beginning February, we were bit taken aback with the time available but knew who to get involved right away to assure we could pull it off in that time frame.
We met at Hard Rock Cafe at Nelson Mandela Square to discuss all the logistics and to set a date in place…. 4 February! Having Jacques flying out on Saturday evening and only returning closer to Valentines day, he didn’t want to wait until then and have Renette anticipate anything for Valentine’s day. The best thing of a wedding proposal flash mob is the element of surprise!
What better way to throw someone’s scent off the track by pretending the flash mob is for someone else entirely. Luckily one of our previous wedding couples were ready to stand in, so our sequence could start out focused on them.
After numerous crunched rehearsals we were ready to set off to Nelson Mandela Square. Our speaker, go pros and wedding signs packed in to make someone’s memory of a lifetime. You never know what you are going to get while preparing for a flash mob and having the security asking you, minutes away from the couple walking past for our que to start, if centre management has OK’ed the flash mob, it gets the hearts pumping quickly! Luckily we started the music and as you can see in the start of the video, how the security guard walks away as we commence, only reaching for his walky talky, is he going to stop us mid proposal……
But now we have started and no turning back. The dancers were pointed directly to Tasha’s as well as the shopping centres entrance but with the commotion with the security guard the music started later as what it should have and the couple is now on the opposite side of the flash mob, not the angle we were going to be facing. Luckily we got one of the dancers just to casually mention to the couple that a much better view of the flash mob would be seen from the other end.. Phew one problem diverted..
As soon as more dancers entered the mob we changed our focus from our fake couple to the real couple, however Renette still has no idea what is going on although all our hands are pointing directly at her when we get to the part of “I think I want to marry you”.
Only when the group breaks up to get their signs for M A R R Y M E ? and we have Jacques walk into the centre of the group, frantically grabbing for the ring box hidden in his jacket, to go onto one knee. You could see how it dawns on her, this flash mob is actually for her. Having waited months for that moment, Jacques has achieved to surprise her with this moment, big ring box and all.
Although how fleeting these moments are, there is always so much planning and anticipation in the background. The most common question we get ask when preparing for things like this, “But will she say yes?” But I can always respond with certainty that if a man goes through all this effort to display his love for that one special person, there never is any doubt.
To Jacques and Renette, once again congratulations and like with all our wedding couples, we are looking forward to start planning their first wedding dance for them. 😉
