On 7 March, Five6seven8 Dance Studio celebrated an incredible milestone. Thirteen years of dance, community, growth, and unforgettable memories.
To mark the occasion, we hosted our second annual Dance Marathon, this time pushing ourselves even further with 13 consecutive hours of dancing.
Last year, we tested the concept with a 12-hour marathon. The response from our dancers was overwhelming, and it quickly became clear that this was something special. So this year we added another hour, and the tradition continues.
And yes, next year we are already planning the 14 Hour Dance Marathon.
A Day of Non-Stop Dance
The marathon started bright and early and carried us all the way into the night.
Throughout the day, dancers moved through a wide variety of styles taught by different instructors, giving everyone the chance to try something new while also pushing their endurance.
The schedule included:
9 am Warm Up
10 am Acro Ballet
11 am Hip Hop & K Pop
12 pm Breaking & Shuffling
1 pm Flash Mob Routine
2 pm Tap & Musical Theatre
3 pm Zumba & Barre
4 pm Heels & Burlesque
5 pm Bollywood & Belly Dancing
6 pm Lindy Hop & West Coast Swing
7 pm Sokkie & Afro Latin
8 pm Line Dancing
9 pm Till L8 Open Floor Party
From the elegance of ballet to the energy of hip hop, from partner dances to line dancing, the marathon became a true celebration of the diversity of dance that exists inside the Five6seven8 community.
Stepping Outside Comfort Zones
One of the most beautiful parts of the marathon was watching dancers try styles they had never done before.
One participant shared that their favourite moment was:
“Seeing everyone embrace a dance style they weren’t comfortable in.”
Another dancer summed it up perfectly:
“There isn’t one specific moment. It was just so much fun being immersed in so many different dance styles.”
The day reminded everyone that dance is not just about mastering one style. It is about exploration, growth, and joy.
Surprising Discoveries
Many dancers discovered unexpected favourites during the marathon.
Some were surprised by how much they enjoyed Sokkie and Ballet, while others discovered new appreciation for Charleston and Line Dancing.
One participant said:
“I really enjoyed the line dancing. I hadn’t realised there was set choreography for different songs. It was fun to participate in.”
Another shared that partner dancing with a best friend became one of the most memorable moments of the day.
The Power of Community
Thirteen hours is no small challenge. But the thing that kept everyone going was not just stamina. It was the energy of the people around them.
Dancers repeatedly mentioned that the community spirit carried them through the toughest moments.
“My friends and the other dancers taking part in the marathon kept me going.”
“The people. I love the high energy coming from the studio community.”
“It was just so much fun that I didn’t want to miss anything.”
The day was filled with laughter, encouragement, snacks, and plenty of moments where dancers lifted each other up when the hours started to add up.
The Tough Moments
Of course, thirteen hours of dance is not easy.
By the latter classes, legs were tired, and muscles were burning. But somehow the energy returned every time the music started again.
And when the line dancing session arrived near the end of the day, the whole studio came together on the floor.
One dancer described it as:
“So fun to dance as a group towards the end of the day. The atmosphere after a full day of dancing was incredible.”
The Aftermath
By the time the final notes of the Till L8 Open Floor Party played, thirteen hours had passed, but somehow it felt like the day had flown by.
There were tired legs, sore muscles, and a few dancers who admitted they could hardly feel their feet anymore. But there was also a huge sense of accomplishment. Completing thirteen hours of dance is no small feat, and every dancer who stepped onto the floor that day became part of something special.
Many of the participants said the marathon pushed them further than they expected, both physically and mentally.
One dancer shared:
“My body was very tired afterwards, but it was completely worth it.”
Another said the experience left them feeling proud:
“I didn’t think I would make all thirteen hours, but the energy of everyone around me kept me going.”
It was clear that the marathon had become more than just a long day of classes. It had become a shared challenge, a celebration, and a reminder of why people fall in love with dance in the first place.
A Tradition is Born
What started as a fun experiment last year with the 12 Hour Dance Marathon has quickly grown into a tradition at Five6seven8.
Each year, we add another hour to celebrate another year of the studio’s journey. It is a way to honour the growth of the community, the dedication of our dancers, and the incredible variety of dance styles that live under one roof.
And if this year is anything to go by, the dancers are already ready for the next challenge.
Looking Ahead
Next year, we celebrate 14 years of Five6seven8.
Which means only one thing.
The 14 Hour Dance Marathon is already on the horizon.
If you have never experienced a marathon before, it is not just about endurance. It is about stepping into new styles, laughing with friends, discovering hidden strengths, and being part of a dance community that supports and celebrates each other.
Thirteen hours of dance.
Thirteen years of Five6seven8.
And a tradition that is only just getting started. 💃
